Game Recap: Celtics win against short-handed Wizards

And here it is! the Celtics won yesterday their second game of the season. Even though it wasn't a pretty game and it didn't end as we all expected, the Celtics deserve some credit for winning it. Due to the win, Doc gave the players the night off but he wasn't happy about what had just happened (Via YahooNBA): ''Because we executed so well we thought we'd give 'em the night off,'' Rivers said after Boston's 100-94 overtime win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. ''Well, we won the game. Right now that's the type of team we are. We're not playing great.''

The game started the best way it could start, the Celtics began with a 11-2 and playing very good defense. Eventually, we could see some flashes of what this team is capable of. But when KG went to the bench, the Wizards outscored us and they got the lead with 16-15. The second quarter was a total disaster, shots were not falling, our bench wasn't executing and we were committing ridiculous turnovers. As far as individual production, KG and Rondo were the only players that did a decent job out there (Garnett had 10 rebounds in the first half). While the second quarter ended 42-37 for the Wizards, the third quarter was a different story, the Celtics started with a 5-0 that put them 42-42 even. Therefore, shots were falling and thanks to an inspired Wilcox who did 6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block in 3:40 minutes and a pair of buckets by Terry we ended the quarter winning 66-58. The last quarter remained me of last game against the Wizards because of our lack of effort, we started to allow them to score and Singleton took advantage of it and did a great job to help the Wizards. Later on, the game was even 88-88 and we had the opportunity to win it. However, with 9 seconds to go, Rondo shot a contested three (which I found it quite needless) that didn't go in. At the end, in overtime, thanks to the big performances of KG and Bass we executed and won the game.

So what are the conclusions of this game...?

- We still have a big lack of consistency. You can tell that when a team has that many up & downs then something is not working well. The Celtics have to mantain a regularity and they don't have to give away final quarters without making any extra effort. Once we reach consistency we will be difficult to beat.

- Our bench has improved considerably (41 points yesterday) thanks to the moving of Bass into reserves and the adaptation of Terry into the system. It seems that the Jet is finding his scoring touch and that's a really good thing. What really concerns me is that Green is not producing as we all expected. Yesterday, he played 21 minutes and only scored 6 points with 2 rebounds and 2 assists plus 2 turnovers. I know it's early and we have to be patient, but it looks like he doesn't make that extra effort a player needs to be successful. I hope he can find his old Thunder game and can contribute a little bit more.

- Our defense needs to get better, specially in the backcourt. It's not possible that a player like Seraphin, who is not bad but it's not a top 25 player, has scored 35 points with a 65% from 2 in the last 2 games against us. In this game, we showed some flashes of good defense but we need to guard way better. Note that we still have turnover problems and we have to fix it as soon as possible.

- Finaly, I have to mention again the performances of Rondo (18-4-14) although he's playing excessive minutes, KG (20-13-2) who played as if it was a playoff game and Wilcox (6-2-1) who literally saved our day.

That's all for today folks, I hope it gets better and we are able to find that consistency we are looking for.

LET'S GO CELTICS

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No estamos jugando nada bien"
