Weekend Recap - 2W/1L for the Celtics

Hey everyone, It's been a lot since I wrote my last post and I apologize for it because I've been very sick these days. 

It's been quite a crazy weekend for the Celtics, they've played 3 games in 4 days so it will be hard to explain everything in a single entry. So I will try to summarize the keys of each game.

There we go:

Evan Turner dismantled the Celtics defense with 25p

The first game was on friday 9 against the 76ers at the TD Garden. The Celtics lost and it was not an easy one to digest because they were playing at home and they struggled with defense and offense as they did in the previous two games against the Bucks and the Heat. 

As we anticipated in the preview, the Sixers are a very tough team defensively and they showed it plus they shot the lights out with 48% from 2 and 53 from 3. Even though they didn't have Bynum they showed that the team has new leaders. Jrue Holiday (21p & 14ast) and Evan Turner (25p & 11 reb) made everything difficult for the Celtics. The key of this game was defense, the team couldn't follow 76ers rhythm and they allowed a lot of fast break points (26). As Doc Rivers told the media after the game (Via Yahoo): ''I thought we hung in the game, kind of fought back,'' Boston coach Doc Rivers said, ''but every time we needed a stop tonight, we didn't get it.'' They definitely have to avoid teams from taking offensive rebounds and from having second opportunities. Despite everything, it would be fair to highlight that Rondo did a really good job dishing 20 assists and KG & Pierce played good games. Terry as well was nice coming off the bench (13 points, 2-4 from 3).

Pierce shined with 25 p. and 9reb.

The following game was a back-to-back game on Saturday against the Bucks in Milwaukee. The Celtics were a bit down but they fought hard and stole a win. In general terms, the game was a complete mess. The Celtics offense was not good but the defense was more decent keeping the Bucks under 40% from 2 and near 15% from 3. Our main problem was our bench production which was only 20 points in the whole game and that was mainly due to the shifting of Terry into the starting lineup. 

There's not much to say about this game, just highlight Pierce's performance with 25 points and 9 rebounds plus KG with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Green also did a good job adding 12 points off the bench. In this game, it was a matter of fighting hard, although nothing was working, Pierce had enough cool blood to put in the last free throws. As Doc points out, that has to be one of our rules, when a game is not going well we still have to fight If we wanna keep the game in control (via Yahoo): ''We just have to keep getting better,'' Boston coach Doc Rivers said. ''I believe in this team. We just have to play hard every night. It'll give us a chance to win games when we're not playing great.''. 

Rondo (20p, 9r & 10a) was the key of the C's Win

The next and final game was yesterday against the Bulls in Chicago. As everyone knows, they are playing without Rose so they don't have that scoring force he used to provide. Despite that, they fought really hard cutting our big difference to 3 points (87-84) in the 4th quarter with 5:15 minutes left. But thanks to an inspired Rondo that nearly had a triple double (20p, 9reb, 10 asi & 5st), we could scape from Chicago with a precious win. Note that Bass went back to the starting lineup doing a pretty good job with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Also, Terry continues to contribute with 13 points including good percentages. Pierce and KG though, didn't have a good game shooting 10 from 28 overall and being outplayed by Deng and Noah. But a win is a win and the most important thing right now is that we are improving and we are playing way more regularly. 

For now, as Doc says, it's all about winning and finding ourselves as a group (Via Yahoo): ''This is a competitive group of guys and they want to find a way to win,'' Rivers said. 

Finally, before I forget it, I would like to say that according to Sean Grande on Twitter, Rajon Rondo has made a record of +11 assists in 28 straight games (passing the great John Stockton). Congrats Rondo!

Hola de nuevo! Hacía ya unos cuantos días que no he podido actualizar debido a que he estado bastante enfermo. Ha sido un fin de semana bastante agitado en lo que respecta a los Celtics ya que han jugado tres partidos en cuatro dias. Mi intención del post de hoy es hacer un pequeño resumen de cada partido con las informaciones relevantes de cada uno.
Allá vamos:

Evan Turner desmanteló la defensa Celtic con 25puntos

El primer partido de los Celtics fue el viernes 9 contra los 76ers en el TD Garden. No fue una derrota facil de digerir ya que jugábamos en casa y jugamos mal ofensivamente y defensivamente tal y como habíamos hecho en los partidos anteriores contra los Heat y los Bucks. Como anticipamos en la previa del partido, los Sixers son un equipo muy duro defensivamente y lo demostraron en la cancha. Además tiraron muy bien con unos porcentajes sorprendentes del 48% de dos y con 53% de tres. Los protagonistas del choque fueron Jrue Holiday (21p y 14a) y Evan Turner (25p y 11reb) cuyo juego nos desequilibró completamente. 

La clave del partido fue la defensa. Los Celtics no pudieron con el ritmo de los Sixers y les dejaron anotar demasiados puntos de contraataque (26). Tal y como dijo Doc Rivers a la prensa (Via Yahoo): "Estuvimos en el partido y luchamos para mantenernos" Doc Rivers dijo, "pero cada vez que tuvimos que pararles, no pudimos." Y es que para evitar tantos puntos hay que cerrar bien el rebote defensivo para que no tengan tantas segundas oportunidades. 

A pesar de todo, también hay que decir que Rondo tuvo un buen partido distribuyendo el juego con 20 asistencias y KG y Pierce tuvieron también buenas actuaciones. Terry también tuvo su rol importante con 13 puntos y 2-4 en triples. 

Pierce brilló con 25 puntos y 9 rebotes

Al día siguiente tocaba otro partido contra los Bucks en Milwaukee. Los Celtics estaban un poco desanimados debido a la dura derrota en casa pero lucharon duro para robar una victoria fuera de casa. El juego ofensivo de los Celtics no fue bueno pero la defensa fue más decente manteniendo a los Bucks bajo unos porcentajes del 40% en tiros de 2 y un 15% en tiros de 3. Nuestro principal problema fue el banquillo ya que sólo anotó 20 puntos. Se podría decir que fue principalmente por la inclusión de Terry en el quinteto titular, pero tampoco sirve como excusa. No hay mucho más que decir sobre el partido, simplemente destacar la actuación de Pierce con 25 puntos y 9 rebotes y la de Garnett con 18 puntos y 6 rebotes. Green también tuvo un buen partido añadiendo 12 desde el banco.
En este partido, lo importante era luchar hasta el final aunque no salió nada y Pierce tuvo sangre fría para anotar los últimos tiros libres. Como Doc dijo, este tiene que ser uno de nuestros lemas, cuando un partido no va bien en ningún sentido, no hay que dejar de luchar si queremos tener el partido controlado (Via Yahoo): "Tenemos que seguir mejorando" Doc Rivers dijo. "Creo en este equipo. Sólo tenemos que jugar duro cada noche. Nos dará una oportunidad de ganar los partidos que no jugamos bien".

Un Rondo 20p, 9r y 10a fue clave 

El último partido fue ayer contra los Bulls en Chicago. Como todos sabéis, los Bulls están jugando sin Rose, así que ya no tienen ese poder anotador que solían tener. A pesar de ello, lucharon y se pusieron a 3 puntos (87-84) en el cuarto cuarto con 5:15 restantes. Pero gracias a un inspirado Rondo que casi tuvo un triple doble (20p, 9reb, 10 asi y 5 rob) pudimos conseguir la victoria. Como apunte, Bass volvió al quinteto inicial cuajando una gran actuación con 16 puntos y 5 rebotes. También Terry continuó con su buena aportación anotando 13 puntos desde el banco con buenos porcentajes. Por otra parte, no podemos decir lo mismo de Pierce y KG, que no tuvieron su mejor dia metiendo 10 de sus 28 tiros y siendo superados por sus pares Deng y Noah. Pero una victoria es una victoria y lo más importante es que hemos mejorado considerablemente pero aún queda trabajo por hacer.

Por ahora, como Doc dice, sólo cuenta ganar y que el equipo se encuentre a sí mismo (Via Yahoo): "Este es un grupo competitivo de jugadores y quieren encontrar el modo de ganar," Rivers dijo.

Finalmente, antes de que se me olvide, me gustaría apuntar que según Sean Grande en Twitter, Rajon Rondo ha hecho el record de más de 11 asistencias en 28 partidos seguidos adelantando al gran John Stockton. Felicidades Rondo!
