Game recap: The Celtics looked lost against the Nets in a brawl-game

Rondo lost his jersey in the fight against Humphries

"Ugly" could be the perfect word to define yesterday's game against the Nets. The rival started very strong doing a big job on the boards and their numerous offensive rebounds created tension between players. Specifically, Humphries is one of these guys that always likes to be there for the rebound and fight for it. So after a play he couldn't grab a rebound, he had a first contact with KG under the rim. Later, KG was attacking the basket and he did a turnaround jumper when suddenly Humphries sent him to the floor. Here it's when Rondo as a "protective" brother, pushed Humphries and several players from both teams got involved. Hence, Rondo, Humphries and Wallace got ejected due to that dirty fight.

Right after the game, Doc Rivers told the media that Rondo controlled himself by not going after the referees and he thought he behaved better this time but still thought it wasn't a good action (Yahoo) ''Usually he goes after the refs,'' Rivers said. ''This was another guy, so this was better.''

Despite the brawl that took all the attention of the game, the Celtics didn't play a good game overall, so let's see why we lost it:

- Once again rebounding killed us throughout the game. A player called Blatche (sounds familiar doesn't he?) and another one called Evans combined to grab 23 rebounds (12 of those were offensive) and really hurt us in the way that it gave them a lot of second opportunities. As a shocking data, the Celtics only grabbed 8 offensive rebounds whereas the Nets grabbed 17.

- We turned the ball over 17 times during the game and that helped them to score a lof of fast-break points.

- We didn't take care of the three line. The Nets shot with a 41% from 3 and Stackhouse (yes, you heard it OK) hit 5 of his 6 threes.

- Our bench didn't produce and we relied mainly in our starting 5. KG and Bass were the only players  that played a good game while Pierce did struggle shooting 4-13 from 2. Terry didn't play bad and Rondo was ejected (cutting his record of +10 assists to 37 games). About the bench, while Green and Lee both got lightly-injured, the only one that did a correct game was Sullinger who scored 6 points and 3 rebounds but commiting 3 fouls.
But in general, the difference between our bench production and the Nets one was terrific: Our bench scored 18 points while the Nets bench scored a total of 52 points.

After that quick analysis, we've seen that without Rondo we find ourselves lost on the parquet. As I always say, it's very important to have our bench ready to produce, we cannot be depending on our starting 5 all the time because 3 of them have more than 35 years old and need to rest.

Finally, as Greg_Payne has said in his Twitter account, Rondo has been suspended for 2 games, so we won't see him tomorrow against the Blazers.

Rondo perdió su camiseta en plena pelea contra Humphries

"Feo"es el adjetivo adecuado para describir lo que se vivió ayer en el TD Garden contra los Brooklyn Nets. Nuestro rival empezó muy fuerte haciendo un duro trabajo en los tableros y cogiendo un gran número de rebotes ofensivos. Esto causó mucha frustración en el equipo verde y no tardó en aparecer algún pique que otro. Concretamente, fueron Humphries y KG los que empezaron a "molestarse"y hubo una ocasión en la que KG estaba posteando, que de repente Humphries lo tiró al suelo al intentar taponar el tiro. Fue entonces cuando ocurrió lo que nadie se esperaba, lo que marcaría el resto del partido y la jornada: Rondo haciendo de hermano protector, empujó a Humphries tirandolo al suelo y ahí empezó una de esas peleas que acaban mal. Otros jugadores como Wallace o Pierce también se vieron involucrados y la cosa acabó con Rondo, Humphries y Wallace expulsados del partido.

Después del partido, Doc dijo que Rondo se controló y no se fue a por los árbitros después de su expulsión como ya había hecho otras veces (recordad el balonazo), y que a pesar de haber hecho una mala acción, aún podría haber sido peor (Yahoo): "Normalmente Rondo se va a por los árbitros," Rivers dijo. "El esta vez fue otro jugador diferente, así que la cosa fue mejor".

Aunque esta pelea acaparó toda la atención del público, si nos centramos en el partido, los Celtics no jugaron nada bien.
Veamos que es lo que se hizo mal:

- Una vez más, el rebote nos mató completamente. Un jugador llamado Blatche (os suena verdad?) y otro llamado Evans cogieron entre los dos 23 rebotes (12 de ellos ofensivos) y esto nos afectó de manera brutal en el sentido de que les regalamos muchas segundas oportunidades. Como dato importante, los Celtics capturaron el pésimo número de 8 rebotes ofensivos mientras los Nets capturaron 17.

- Perdimos la pelota 17 veces en todo el partido y esto ayudó al otro equipo a anotar muchos de los puntos en contraataque que tuvieron.

- No supimos defender la línea de 3. Los Nets lanzaron con un 41% de 3 y Stackhouse (sí, habéis escuchado bien) anotó 5 de sus 6 intentos.

- Nuestro banquillo no aportó casi nada y de nuevo todo el trabajo recayó sobre la primera unidad. De esta primera unidad, los únicos que dieron la cara fueron KG y Bass y un poco Terry. Pierce por otro lado, se le vio muy perdido y metió 4 de sus 13 intentos y Rondo (como ya hemos dicho antes) fue expulsado acabando con su récord de +10 asistencias en 37 partidos seguidos. En lo que se refiere a participación de banquillo, mientras Green y Lee ambos tuvieron pequeñas lesiones, el único que jugó decente fue Sullinger con 6 puntos y 3 rebotes pero haciendo 3 faltas.
En general, la diferencia de anotación fue aplastante en relación con el equipo contrario ya que nuestro banquillo sólo anotó 18 puntos y el equipo contrario 52 puntos.

Después de este rápido análisis, hemos visto que sin Rondo no somos nada y el equipo se siente perdido en la pista. Como siempre digo, es muy importante que el banquillo aporte ya que no podemos depender de nuestro quinteto titular, pues 3 de los 5 jugadores pasan de los 35 años y evidentemente necesitan más descansos.

Para acabar, acabamos de enterarnos via Greg_Payne desde Twitter que Rondo ha sido suspendido por 2 partidos, así que no dispondremos de el en el partido de mañana ante Blazers.

5th Weekend Recap - 2W / 0L

Hi there! Here we are again with our weekly weekend recap bringing two exciting summaries of Friday and Sunday games. The Celtics surprised us all with a massive win against the Thunder controlling every aspect of the game. Furthermore, Sunday's game was totally unexpected as it was extended to an OT but we finally we managed to escape from Florida with a precious win.
Let's see what happened in each of the matches:

(Win 100-108) Friday 23 vs OKC Thunder

The Truth commanded the team with four 3's & 27 points

Our first game of the Weekend was on Friday against last year's NBA finalists: The OKC Thunder. As the way the Celtics were playing lately, nobody expected a win like that against them. But our pride goes beyond everything and we played as if it was a playoff game, with strong defense and good ball-sharing. 

As you can see in the photo, the main protagonist of the game was Pierce aka The Truth, who played as if he had 25 years old scoring 27 points in 31 minutes with 4-6 from 3. Our defense was so good that we forced the Thunder to shoot under 47% from 2 and 25% from 3. Plus, we shared the ball perfectly in a way that almost everybody got touches except Barbosa who didn't have a good day. Most of this exceptional ball-share was thanks to Rondo who had 16 assists and did a terrific job against Westbrook. I have to say that we did good pressing the ball that forced the Thunder to commit 16 turnovers, and that hurt them all the game.

I would also like to highlight former Thunder Jeff Green's performance against his old teammates: he scored 17 points in 24 minutes and played very aggressively every single minute he was on the parquet.

(Win 116-110) Sunday 25 vs Orlando Magic

Kg saved the day with 24 points and 10 rebounds

The next game was on Sunday in Florida against the Orlando Magic. Overall, the game was not pretty at all. The defensive effort shown on Friday's game against the Thunder was not present here as we let the Magic shoot 42% from 3. 

Our first half was not bad and we were up almost all the time but at the end of the third quarter they went up with a buzzer-beater from Jameer Nelson. Here is when our team started to react. Thanks to a big Pierce that scored 14 points in the second half (3-5 from 3), we started to go up again in the fourth quarter but an inspired Redick who had 21 from the bench helped them to stay in the game. Finally, after KG missed a shot and the Magic turned the ball over, the game was still even and Pierce had the opportunity to win it but he missed a turnaround jumper at the buzzer. Fortunately, the OT was way better as our key players appeared again. A huge KG who had 24+10 and a flashy Rondo who had 16 assists combined each other to give the Celtics a new win.

As we always say, despite the results we still believe in defense and Garnett expressed it with his words (Yahoo): ''We're a defensive team that can score the basketball,'' Garnett said. ''We always have been. As long as Doc's going to be here, that's how it's going to be.'' 

Finally, I would like to highlight Barbosa's spark from the bench with 15 points in 10 minutes and of course, Sullinger who had a big game with 11 points and 6 rebounds. It's nice to have one of these guys each game, but we have to make sure everyone joins the game at the same time. In this game, we missed Green (despite his big game on Friday) and Terry (couldn't score the ball) and as usual Lee, who's still trying to shape his game with his new team.

Having said everything about the weekend, it's time to focus on tonight's game against the Nets. Expect it to be a difficult but a great game at the same time, as it is becoming a nice duel to watch. Will Rondo continue his +10 assists streak?

Hola de nuevo! Aquí estamos con nuestro repaso semanal del fin de semana con los resúmenes de los 

dos partidos que se jugaron el viernes y domingo de madrugada. En el primer partido, los Celtics nos sorprendieron con una gran victoria ante los Thunder controlando todos los aspectos del juego. El domingo en cambio, parecía que iba a ser un partido ganable y acabó siendo una prórroga, aunque pudimos escapar de Florida con una victoria.

Veamos lo que ocurrió con detalle en cada uno de los partidos:

(Victoria 100-108) Viernes 23 vs OKC Thunder

The Truth lideró la victoria con 27 puntos y 4 triples

El primer partido del fin de semana fue el viernes ante los finalistas de la temporada pasada: los OKC Thunder. Nadie esperaba que el partido sería tan fácil para los verdes, ya que últimamente no estamos jugando nuestro mejor baloncesto. Pero nuestro está por encima de todas las cosas y nos hizo jugar como si de un partido de playoff se tratara: jugando una gran defensa y moviendo bien el balón.

Como podéis observar en la foto, el principal protagonista del encuentro fue Pierce aka The Truth, cuya actuación fue memorable anotando 27 puntos en 31 minutos con 4-6 en triples. En el aspecto defensivo, nuestra defensa fue tan buena que los Thunder lanzaron por debajo del 47% en tiros de 2 y con un 25% desde la línea de 3. Por otro lado, la pelota fue movida de tal manera que todo el equipo estuvo involucrado en el ataque (excepto Barbosa que no tuvo un buen partido). Tal buen movimiento de balón fue básicamente gracias a Rondo y sus 16 asistencias, y cuyo juego defensivo fue eficiente al estar encima de Westbrook durante casi todo el partido. El hecho de que hiciéramos tan buena defensa provocó que los Thunder cometieran 16 pérdidas y ayudó a poder controlar su juego más eficientemente.

Como apunte final, me gustaría destacar la actuación del ex-Thunder Jeff Green con 17 puntos en 24 minutos y su agresividad en todos los minutos que estuvo en cancha.

(Victoria 116-110) Domingo 23 vs Orlando Magic

Garnett fue decisivo con 24 puntos y 10 rebotes

El siguiente partido fue el domingo en Florida ante los Orlando Magic. En general, el partido no fue muy bueno. Defensivamente, no jugamos como en el partido anterior ante Thunder y eso se notó ya que los Magic tiraron con un 42% de acierto desde la línea de 3. La primera parte no fue del todo mal y estuvimos por encima casi todo el rato pero fue al final del tercer cuarto cuando los Magic se pusieron por encima gracias a un tiro sobre la bocina de Nelson. Fue aquí cuando nuestro equipo se dio cuenta de que algo iba mal y tenían que reaccionar. Así pues, un inspirado Pierce se puso las pilas y anotó 14 puntos en la segunda parte (3-5 de 3) para ponernos delante en el cuarto cuarto. Pero un enchufado Redick que anotó 21 puntos desde el banquillo ayudó a su equipo a sobrevivir. Finalmente, después de que KG fallara un tiro y los Magic perdieran una pelota, Pierce tuvo el balón de la victoria con un tiro a media distancia pero la pelota no entró y el partido se fue a la prórroga. Fue en la prórroga cuando Rondo (16 asistencias) y KG (24 puntos y 10 rebotes) se combinaron para ganar la parte y llevarse el partido a casa.

Como siempre decimos aquí en el blog, aún es pronto y toca seguir creyendo en la defensa y así lo piensa KG con sus palabras (Yahoo): "Somos un equipo defensivo anotador" Garnett dijo. "Siempre lo hemos sido. Al menos hasta que Doc esté aquí, lo seguiremos siendo".

Finalmente, para acabar el resumen, me gustaría destacar la excelente aportación de Barbosa desde el banquillo con 15 puntos en 10 minutos y por supuesto el partido de Sullinger con 11 puntos y 6 rebotes. Es verdad que muy bien al menos tener la aportación de alguno de estos jugadores en cada partido, pero es verdad que necesitamos todos los jugadores si queremos ganar ese título que tanto ansiamos. En este partido echamos de menos jugadores como Green (a pesar del partidazo contra Thunder), Terry (no le entró nada) y por supuesto Lee, que aún está intentando ajustar su juego a los esquemas de Doc.

Habiéndolo dicho todo sobre el fin de semana, toca centrarse en el partido de dentro de 1 hora ante los Nets. Se espera que sea un partido difícil pero entretenido a la vez, ya que últimamente se están enfrentando bastante y se está creando una rivalidad interesante.

The Celtics are going to try to reinstate their defensive power against the second best scoring team in the NBA: the OKC Thunder. They are an all-around team that are in their best despite James Harden's departure. Expect it to be a very difficult game and we will need everyone to contribute in order to steal this one.

Key matchups of the game

Rondo vs Westbrook

Rondo is getting used to face top point guards lately. I think today's the most difficult task for him. Westbrook is one of the fastest players in the NBA: he's quick, hes explosive, a good passer, he can dunk over big defenders and he can shoot the ball well (despite he's struggling a little bit). But one of his weaknesses is his turnovers as he's averaging 2,8 per game. So Rondo's objective must be to force him make turnovers and of course, take control of the game and run the team as he knows. And why not, try to extend his streak of 10+ assists in 35 consecutive games.

Pierce vs Durant

That's definitely going to be the harshest matchup for Pierce since we played against LeBron and the Miami heat on the season's opening night. In my opinion, Durant is the best player in the NBA right now as he can do everything that every player would like. So, for Pierce it's going to be tough but he has proven to be able to defend big stars such as LeBron despite his lack of speed. What we need from Pierce is to be aggressive and specially to force durant to turn the ball over because he's a turnover prone too.

Keys to the game

- Defense is a MUST in this game. They rely mainly on offense averaging 103 points per game so we need a lot of stops if we want to take the game. We have to be specially careful (as I said before) with Westbrook, Durant and their bench star player Kevin Martin. We also have to avoid turnovers as they would give the Thunder an opportunity to run and we don't really want them to do it because they are very good at that. Finally, it should be nice to take care of the 3point line because they feel very comfortable in this zone and they like to shoot many threes.

- Rebound is essential in this game. We don't want to allow them to have second opportunities so the Celtics have to close the zone and try to grab as many rebounds as they can. They have players that can rebound very well like Ibaka, the former Celtic Perkins or even Collison from the bench. I know we lack of height but we just need an extra effort from the players we got, it just doesn't have to be a KG work, Bass, Sully, Green.. they have to contribute all.

- As always, our bench has to contribute more. Barbosa, Lee, Green and even Sullinger are a group of guys that can score but we need them at 100% so they can replace the first unit's scoring.

With nothing more to say, I'm really looking forward to watch this game and to welcome again Perkins. It would be nice to have him right now, don't you think?

Los Celtics intentaran recuperar su capacidad defensiva ante el segundo mejor equipo anotador de la NBA: Los OKC Thunder. Nuestro rival de hoy es un equipo todo-terreno que están en su mejor momento a pesar de la salida de James Harden. Emparejamientos del partido

Rondo vs Westbrook

Rondo últimamente se está acostumbrando a jugar contra los mejores bases de la liga. Hoy le va a tocar el hueso más duro de la liga. Westbrook es uno de los jugadores más rápidos de la liga: es explosivo, buen pasador, puede machacar delante de defensores más grandes y también tiene un buen tiro (aunque últimamente no tenga buenos porcentajes). Pero una de sus debilidades son las pérdidas cuyo promedio es de 2,8 por partido. Así que Rondo puede aprovecharse e intentar forzarle para perder más balones de lo normal. Y como no, tiene que dirigir al equipo como el sabe y si puede, seguir esa racha de +10 asistencias en 35 partidos consecutivos.

Pierce vs Durant

Este va a ser el rival más duro de cubrir para Pierce desde que jugamos el primer partido de liga contra LeBron y sus Miami Heat. En mi opinión, Durant es el mejor jugador de la liga actualmente ya que puede hacer todo lo que cualquier jugador le gustaría hacer. Así que, para Pierce va a ser una tarea dura pero se ha demostrado que puede defender jugadores top como el mismo LeBron a pesar de su poca velocidad. Lo que realmente necesitamos de el es que sea agresivo como siempre e intentar forzar a Durant para que pierda la pelota ya que también es un jugador que acostumbra a perderla mucho.

Claves del partido

- Defender es OBLIGATORIO en este partido. Los Thunder están tan arriba gracias a su potente juego ofensivo promediando 103 puntos por partido, así que necesitamos pararles los pies si queremos tener el partido a favor. Tenemos que tener especial cuidado (como hemos dicho antes) con Westbrook, Durant y su estrella del banquillo Kevin Martin. También tenemos que evitar las pérdidas ya que esto daría la oportunidad al rival de correr y no hay que permitirlo pues son un equipo que juega al contraataque muy bien. Finalmente, sería bueno estar atentos sobre la línea de 3 puntos pues ellos se sienten muy cómodos en esa zona y tienen tiradores letales.

- Rebotear es esencial. Debemos cerrar bien el rebote para que no tengan segundas oportunidades. Los Thunder tienen jugadores como Ibaka, Collison o el ex-Celtic Perkins cuya habilidad es rebotear así que hay que tener especial cuidado con ellos. Sé que estamos faltos de altura y es por eso que necesitamos un esfuerzo extra, no sólo de KG sino también de Bass, Sully y Green.

- Como siempre, nuestro banquillo va a ser la clave para marcar diferencias. Barbosa, Lee, Green e incluso Sullinger son buenos anotadores que aún no han llegado a su juego óptimo. Es por eso que los necesitamos al 100% para poder dar descanso eficiente a la primera unidad.

Sin nada más que contar, sólo decir que tengo muchas ganas de este partido y también de volver a ver a Perkins en el Garden. Sería bueno verlo de verde de nuevo, no creéis?

Game recap: The Celtics lose against a "hard in the paint" Spurs

The boxscore says it all, doesn't it? Look at our bench production and at our number of rebounds and you will be able to find out what happened yesterday against the Spurs. The only thing that was good was the offense and it mantained us alive (Yahoo): ''We shot 53 percent and the reason we were there is because our offense allowed us to stay there,'' Boston coach Doc Rivers said. ''But to me, that was fools' gold because the way we were playing defense, you're not going to get a stop, you're not going to win a game.'' As Doc said, it's always the same story, it's about being aggressive making stops and if we are not able to do that then the season is over. 

Let's see some deep thoughts of this game:

- Well, first of all, our rebounding was terrible. I think I haven't ever seen a team grabbing only 1 offensive rebound in a single NBA game. Unfortunately, that were us, and we really have to do something to fix this lack of rebounding. The Spurs out-rebounded us 41 to 25 and most of the rebounds came from Sullinger (7) and Bass (6). After the waiving of Milicic, these days have been some rumors talking about a trade involving Gortat or Martin that could really help to fix this big hole in our game. I really hope we can bring Marcin because he would be ideal for our game: a strong 7' center that can score and rebound.

- Moreover, our bench production was really bad. 17 bench points really makes us thinks what is going there. We need immediately them to contribute, specially Lee and Green because they were brought here in order to provide big spark from the bench. 

- We are definitely losing our defensive touch. We are no longer that team that held the opponents to score less than 90 points per game. We have to find the way to be effective and to be aggressive against our opponents. For you to see how bad we defended: Parker, Duncan & Splitter combined for 69 points while shooting the lights out with a percentage of 70% and believe me, that's not good at all.

- The only good thing in the game was the starters offense which was really nice overall. Rondo specially had a huge performance as we were predicting in the preview. He scored 22 points and dished 15 dimes, but it wasn't enough as we didn't defend and rebound properly. Gotta mention Terry that did a nice job and he is adjusting to the Celtic offensive scheme.

And well, that's all for today. It was difficult to see our team fall like that because we have the offense, but we still have to do a lot of work on the defensive side.

Las estadísticas lo dicen todo verdad? Echadle un vistazo a nuestro banquillo y a los rebotes que hemos cogido en total y veréis lo que ocurrió ayer contra los Spurs. La única cosa que nos mantuvo en el partido fue nuestro juego ofensivo (Yahoo): "Tiramos con un 53% y la única razón por la que estábamos ahí es gracias a nuestro juego ofensivo," Doc Rivers dijo. "Pero no es oro todo lo que reluce ya que de la forma en que jugamos defensivamente, no ganaremos ni un partido." Como Doc dijo, es siempre la misma historia, la clave es ser agresivos en defensa y si el equipo no se compromete a cumplirlo ya podemos dar la temporada por perdida.

Veamos lo que podemos extraer del partido:

- Primeramente, reboteamos fatal. Creo que aún no he visto ningún equipo coger sólo 1 rebote ofensivo en un partido de NBA. Desafortunadamente, los Celtics hicieron esto, y de verdad, hay que solucionarlo urgentemente. Los Spurs casi nos doblaron en rebotes con 41 contra 25 de los Celtics (la mayoría vinieron de Sullinger con 7 y Bass con 6). Últimamente han habido algunos rumores relacionados con Gortat o Martin y creo que si ocurriera, nos podría ayudar con esta falta de rebote. En mi opinión, después de la marcha de Milicic necesitamos alguien como Gortat desesperadamente ya que un 7 pies anotador y reboteador como el puede ser ideal para nuestro equipo.

- Una vez más nuestra aportación del banquillo fue insuficiente. 17 puntos desde el banquillo realmente hace daño en la vista. Necesitamos urgentemente a jugadores como Lee y Green que fueron contratados especialmente para suplir ese gran vacío que dejan los titulares cuando descansan.

- Creo que estamos perdiendo cada vez más nuestro aura defensivo que tanto nos caracterizaba. Ya no somos ese equipo que dominaba la liga dejando a los rivales por debajo de los 90 puntos. Para que veáis lo lejos que estamos de nuestro nivel defensivo, en el partido de ayer Parker, Duncan y Splitter metieron 69 puntos tirando con un 70% en tiros. Creedme, esto no pinta nada bien.

- Lo único bueno que podemos extraer de este partido fue el juego ofensivo de los titulares que fue bastante bueno en general. Rondo fue el que más destacó con 22 puntos y 15 asistencias, pero no fue suficiente ya que no tuvimos esa preciada defensa y ese esfuerzo en los rebotes. Me gustaría mencionar también la aportación de Terry, cuyo juego está adaptándose cada vez más al sistema Celtic.

Y bueno, es todo por hoy. La verdad es que fue difícil ver a nuestro equipo caer de esta manera ya que tenemos lo que hay que tener ofensivamente, pero aún hay que trabajar mucho en el lado defensivo.

The Celtics will face tonight one of the toughest rivals of the league: The San Antonio Spurs. After playing 7 games in 10 days, the players have had 3 days to think about what to adjust in order to improve the game  and the most important thing: to recover our "legs".

Boston have won 7 of the last 10 games against the Spurs and we expect to keep up winning in order to continue these brilliant stats.

Key Matchups of the game

 Rondo vs Parker

Do we really need to say anything? This is going to be a true point guard rivalry. Both players are two of the most skilled guards of the league. If Rondo wants to win this matchup he has to control the game and try to destabilize Parker with his flashy moves. He also has to keep Parker away from the basket because he's a very good penetrator. Today would be a perfect day for Rondo to have one of his big triple doubles.

Keys to the game

- Defense is going to be the main priority to win this game. The Spurs are a good offensive team and they rely mainly on this to win games. They are 11th in the ranking of scoring and they have some weapons like Parker, Ginobili, Duncan and even De Colo. Fortunately, they are playing without Stephen Jackson who is one of their main scorers and Kawhi Leonard as well. So we must be aggressive and prevent them to score easily if we want to win this game.

- Our bench still has to be more aggressive. Sullinger, Barbosa and Wilcox have been pretty good lately. But the main problem is with Green and Lee, who need to contribute more and be more consistent.

- Finally, Rebounding is still a big concern for us. We still need to improve our rebounding because we keep being the worst team in the league in this aspect. We have to make sure we are more agressive and don't let the other team grab rebounds and have second opportunities.

Having said that, let's relax and enjoy the Celtics show.

 Emparejamiento del partido

 Rondo vs Parker

No hace falta decir nada más. Va a ser un gran duelo de bases puros. Los dos jugadores son dos de los mejores bases de la liga. Si Rondo quiere ganar el emparejamiento tiene que controlar el partido e intentar desestabilizar a Parker con sus rápidos movimientos. También tiene que intentar mantener a Parker alejado de la zona ya que es uno de los mejores penetradores de la liga. Esperamos que Rondo tenga uno de esos partidos brillantes con su característico triple doble.

Claves del partido

- La defensa va a ser la prioridad para ganar el partido. Los Spurs son un excelente equipo ofensivo y básicamente se apoyan en su anotación para ganar los partidos. Son el 11º equipo en anotación y tienen buenas armas ofensivas tales como Parker, Ginobili, Duncan y incluso el ex-ACB De Colo. Afortunadamente, juegan sin Stephen Jackson (que es uno de sus principales anotadores) y también sin Kawhi Leonard. Así que tenemos que ser muy agresivos e intentar prevenir que anoten fácilmente si queremos ganar el partido.

- Nuestro banquillo aún tiene que ser más agresivo. Sullinger, Barbosa y Wilcox han sido bastante regulares. Pero ha sido todo lo contrario para Green y Lee, que aún se sigue esperando mucho más de ellos ya que han sido bastante irregulares.

- Finalmente el rebote sigue siendo extremadamente importante. Seguimos siendo el peor equipo reboteador de la liga y la verdad es que no ayuda nada. Hay que ser mucho más agresivos y cambiar la actitud frente a los rebotes. Hay que evitar que nos cojan rebotes ofensivos ya que permiten muchas segundas oportunidades.

4th Weekend Recap - 1W / 2L for the Celtics

Hey guys, how's everything going? It's been a quite tough weekend for the Celtics: they have lost 2 of 3 games, including a disappointing loss against the Pistons (which have one the worst record in the league). In this post, I'm going to analyze each game to see what has happened and what have been the main issues.

(Loss 97-102) Friday 15 vs Brooklyn Nets

Johnson's late spark helped the Nets (Yahoo)

Our first game of the weekend was on friday against the mighty Nets. Although they didn't have Gerald Wallace (their defensive anchor), they had their star Joe Johnson who struggled during the game but hit some important shots that helped his team to win the game. Our first half was not good enough, it's true that we were playing without Rondo but we have to say that our interior defense was ridiculous. The Nets grabbed 13 offensive rebounds in the first half and that led to a lot of second opportunities for them. The second half was way better, we started with a 10-0 run led by Barbosa, Pierce & Terry that put the game even (69-69). The rest of the half was almost all the time even but the good play of Brook Lopez and the hero-ball played by Joe Johnson (who hit 3 big shots at the end) helped them to win the game. We tried to make some comebacks but the Nets made it difficult for us. At the end of the game both Pierce & Terry didn't make 4 important free throws that could have helped to win the game. 

The fact that we lost this game at the end left us with a sour taste because it could have been a win easily. We shot 46% from 2 and 53% from 3 whereas the rival shot 42% from 2 and 36% from 3. It was mainly a thing of executing on defense at the end of the game, we have to make sure we focus on key players to close games. Notwithstanding this, we played pretty well without Rondo and players like Lee, Barbosa and Wilcox surprised us with their performance.

(Win 89-107) Saturday 16 vs Toronto Raptors

Rondo did an impressive job with 20 assists (Yahoo)

After a day off without playing, the Celtics faced the Raptors on Saturday at the Garden. It seemed an easy game, but after playing with low-record teams and losing against them, the Celtics didn't want to be over-confident. But as the predictions show, it was a pretty easy one.

Rajon Rondo was the main protagonist. He controlled the game ruling the tempo and dished no less than 20 assists. It seems that Rondo's comfortable when his teammates are making shots (via Yahoo): ''Something I look forward to every game is just trying to make my teammates happy. And somehow I keep getting to 10,'' Rondo said. ''Tonight it was a collective team effort as far as assists.''

We could say that we needed a game like that. We did everything everything in our power to have success. The Celtics held the raptors to a 42% from 2 and to a 36% from 3 which are pretty good numbers that mean great defense by us. The most impressive thing was Sullinger, who collected his first double-double in the NBA as he scored 12 points (5-6) and grabbed 11 rebounds. It's important for the rookie to get touches and he demonstrated it on Saturday. The rest of the bench was good overall, although Lee lowered his last game performance with only 4 points.

(Loss 83-103) Sunday 18 vs Detroit Raptors

Monroe was the main threat with 20p (Yahoo)

Totally unexpectedly, the Pistons beat us on a comeback game in Detroit by 20 points. No words right? the Pistons are one of the worst teams in the league with a 2-9 record and it seemed like it was going to be similar to Raptors game. But the Pistons are not playing bad at all and they are having bad luck when closing games. But on Sunday, they managed to play solid basketball against an exhausted Celtics team. As KG said, we must not put the schedule as an excuse, but when there aren't legs left you just can't make stops (via Yahoo): ''We can't use the schedule as an excuse - this is the NBA and you have to play stretches like this,'' Garnett said. ''But when you see as many shots hit the front of the rim as we had tonight, you know that you don't have your legs."

So it's hard to say something good about the game because it was completely a mess. We shot 45% from 2 and 25% from three and the Pistons shot 54% from 2, which is a high number.

The only thing that I would highlight from this game would be Sullinger's big game with 16 points and 5 rebounds (the kid really can play) and Rondo's ability to put up assists even in a game that has no offense at all. Remember that with this game in which he had 10 assists, he's still going on with his record of +10 assists in 33 consecutive games.

So to conclude today's post, we could say that the schedule has been tough for us. Despite everything, we've been seeing some good things about our team and I think we have to give them a break and more time to find themselves. By the way, I really like the kid's (Sullinger) effort and if he continues playing like that he's going to be the future of the franchise along Rondo.

Buenas noches a todos! Ha sido un fin de semana bastante duro para los Celtics ya que han perdido 2 de los 3 partidos jugados (incluida la decepcionante derrota ante los Pistons, cuyo récord es uno de los peores de la liga). 

En el post de hoy analizaré cada uno de los partidos incluyendo los factores importantes de cada uno.

(Derrota 97-102) Jueves 15 vs Brooklyn Nets

Johnson se proclamó con un gran final (Yahoo)

Nuestro primer partido del fin de semana fue el viernes ante los Nets. Aunque no contaban con Gerald Wallace (su arma defensiva), tenían a Joe Johnson que jugó mal en general pero al final del partido anotó 3 canastas clave para dar la victoria a su equipo. Nuestra primera parte no fue muy buena, es verdad que jugábamos sin Rondo, pero también hay que decir que nuestra defensa interior fue terrible. Los Nets cogieron 13 rebotes ofensivos en la primera parte que les permitió tener muchas segundas oportunidades. La segunda parte fue bastante mejor, empezamos con un parcial de 10-0 liderado por Barbosa, Pierce y Terry que pusieron el partido igualado a 69. El resto del partido fue casi todo el rato igualado aunque el buen juego de Brook Lopez y las últimas canastas de Johnson nos derrocaron. Aunque no pudimos parar a Johnson, el equipo intentó volver al partido pero ya era demasiado tarde. Además Pierce y Terry fallaron 4 tiros libres clave que nos podrían haber ayudado a ponernos por delante. 

El problema fue básicamente de concentración ya que al final del partido les dejamos ir y se escaparon. En realidad podríamos haber ganado el partido con facilidad, además lanzamos con buenos porcentajes: 46% de 2 y 53% de 3, y en cambio, los Nets lanzaron sólo con un 42% de 2 y un 36% de 3. A pesar de todo, jugamos sin Rondo y jugadores como Lee, Barbosa y Wilcox aparecieron cuando más se les necesitaba y sorprendieron con su juego.

 (Victoria 89-107) Sábado 16 vs Toronto Raptors

Después de un día sin jugar, los Celtics se enfrentaban a los Raptors el sábado en el Garden. Parecía un partido fácil, pero después de jugar contra equipos de tabla baja y perder contra ellos, los Celtics no podían permitirse confiarse. Pero como se predijo, fue un partido fácil para los verdes.

Rondo hizo un gran trabajo con 20 asistencias (Yahoo)

Rajon Rondo fue el principal protagonista del partido. El base de los Celtics controló el tempo del partido y repartió nada más y nada menos que 20 asistencias. Según Rondo, se siente feliz cuando sus compañeros anotan gracias a sus pases (via Yahoo): "Algo que me gusta hacer en los partidos es hacer felices a mis compañeros. Y no se como, siempre llego mínimo a 10 asistencias" Rondo dijo. "Esta noche fue un esfuerzo colectivo respecto a las asistencias".

Realmente podemos decir que necesitábamos un partido como este. Los Celtics hicieron un gran trabajo defensivamente dejando a los Raptors en unos porcentajes del 42% en tiros de 2 y en un 36% de 3. Aunque podemos decir que lo que más sorprendió fue el primer doble-doble de Sullinger con 12 puntos (5-6) y 11 rebotes. La verdad es que su actuación fue importante en el partido y fue determinante para la victoria. Por otra parte, el resto del banquillo también estuvo bien, aunque Lee bajó su rendimiento respecto al partido anterior anotando sólo 4 puntos.

Antes de que se me olvide me gustaría dejaros el video de las 20 asistencias de Rondo. Impresionante verdad? 

(Derrota 83-103) Domingo 18 vs Detroit Raptors

Al día siguiente, de forma totalmente inesperada, los Pistons nos ganaron en Detroit de 20 puntos. No hay palabras verdad? Los Pistons son uno de los peores equipos de la liga con un récord de 2-9 y todo apuntaba a que iba a ser un partido parecido al de los Raptors. Pero los de Detroit no están jugando nada mal y suelen tener bastante mala suerte en los últimos cuartos. Pero en esta ocasión, jugaron un basket tremendo y pudieron con unos Celtics derrotados físicamente. Como KG dijo, no debemos poner el calendario como excusa, pero también es verdad que cuando hay tantos partidos seguidos jugados, se hace más complicado defender con intensidad (via Yahoo): "No podemos poner el calendario como una simple excusa - esto es la NBA y a veces tocan muchos partidos juntos," Garnett dijo. "Pero cuando ves que el rival le entra todo, sabes que el equipo no está físicamente bien"

Así que simplemente es difícil extraer algo bueno sobre este partido ya que fue un desastre. Tiramos con unos porcentajes de 45% de 2 y un pésimo 25% de 3 y los Pistons nos superaron con un 54% de 2. Si tuviera que destacar algo del partido, sería la gran actuación de Sullinger de nuevo, con 16 puntos y 5 rebotes (el chico lo está haciendo realmente bien) y la habilidad de Rondo para sacar asistencias de donde no las hay. Acordaos que su racha de +10 asistencias en 33 partidos seguidos sigue ya que en este encuentro tuvo 10 asistencias.

Para concluir el post de hoy, en mi opinión, no hay de que preocuparse ya que el calendario ha sido muy duro. A pesar de las derrotas, hemos visto muchas cosas buenas sobre nuestro equipo y creo que necesitan un poco más de tiempo para ajustar. Sobretodo destacaría la importancia que está teniendo Sullinger en los esquemas de Doc, y si continúa jugando así, creo que puede ser bueno para la franquicia en un futuro junto a Rondo.

Jazz @ Celtics recap // Celtics @ Brooklyn preview

Today it's going to be a double post with yesterday's recap and the preview for tonight's game against Brooklyn. Let's begin talking about what happened yesterday at the TD Garden.

Our captain played great with 23 points

Yesterday was a big day for our reserves. Our bench combined for 47 points with the outstanding performance of Barbosa (16p) and Green (16p). The first half was a bit dense although we ended only losing only by 2 points (46-44). The Jazz aggressively attacked our zone with Millsap and Favors who combined for 16 points. It seemed like we didn't have a clue of what to do with our interior defense, so I think that leaning a bit on Milicic would help a lot. We stood our ground thanks to quality minutes from Wilcox and mostly buckets from Green, Barbosa and Bass. The second half was way more interesting thanks mostly by the appearance of our captain. Unfortunately, Rondo rolled his ankle with 5 minutes left in the third quarter (nothing serious has been reported though), but Barbosa filled his void with an incredible game shooting 6-8 from the field. The rest of the half was commanded by the scoring of Green and some key threes by Pierce. Also, Garnett hit a pair of free throws that helped the team to close the game. As an important data of the game, Rondo dished 10 assists so he still continues with his record of 10+ assists now in 32 games in a row and we hope it lasts for much more. 

So, as a conclusion we could say that the game was a pretty nice one as we held the Jazz to shoot a 40% from 2. If the bench continues to contribute like that we really are going to be the team to beat.

Tonight the Celtics look to extend their 3 game win streak against the powerful Nets in Brooklyn. Today it's time to demonstrate that the team is improving by trying to beat one of the most skilled teams in the league. The nets, which are commanded by Deron Williams, are going to play scoring game and the Celtics will have to play strong defense if they want to take the win home.

Rondo vs Williams

Two of the 5 top point guards are going to clash on tonight's game. I'm really excited, aren't you? If Rondo's recovered from yesterday's injury, it will be the perfect moment for him to do a triple-double because the game is going to be on national tv (and you know what happens when Rondo is playing in front of the whole American continent). Expect it to be a nice duel, both point guards are flashy and they got crazy handles but maybe Rondo's better defender than Williams while Williams is a better shooter than Rondo.

Keys to the game

- Although they probably are not going to have MarShon Brooks and Gerald Wallace, they've Williams , Johnson and Lopez, who are all-star caliber players that can really hurt the Celtics. Today we have to be more aggressive on the defensive end. They are a pretty good shooting team so expect a lot of 3's as well.

- We need our bench to come up as they did on yesterday's game. But it would be nice that our starters contribute too. Terry and KG are very big important players too and we need them in order to win the game.

- Rebound is going to be very important as always. Yesterday we allowed a lot of second opportunities that led to a lot of buckets. We have to make sure we close the rebound and that we are aggressive to grab as many rebounds as we can.

Hoy tenemos doble post con la crónica del partido de ayer y la previa del partido de hoy ante los Nets en Brooklyn. Vamos a empezar hablando de lo que pasó ayer en el TD Garden.

Pierce contribuyó con 23 puntos

Ayer fue un buen dia para nuestro banquillo. Los reservas anotaron 47 puntos con una gran actuación de Barbosa (16p) y Green (16p). La primera parte fue un poco espesa aunque sólo nos ganaron de dos al final de la primera mitad. Los Jazz atacaron agresivamente nuestra zona con un Millsap muy activo y un Favors muy agresivo. Estos dos jugadores nos hicieron plantearnos nuestro juego defensivo interior, y es que creo que deberíamos también confiar en jugadores como Milicic para intimidar más al rival. Por nuestra parte, tuvimos minutos de calidad de Wilcox (6p) y mayoritariamente puntos de Green, Barbosa y Bass. La segunda mitad fue un poco más interesante ya que nuestro capitán apareció. Desafortunadamente, Rondo se torció el tobillo a falta de 5 minutos de acabar el 3 cuarto, pero Barbosa ocupó su lugar y cuajó una actuación excelente anotando 6 tiros de los 8 que lanzó. El resto de la parte tuvo principalmente como protagonistas a Green y algunos triples claves de Pierce. También KG anotó un par de tiros libres que ayudaron al equipo a cerrar el partido. Como apunte, Rondo hizo 10 asistencias que le hace continuar con su récord de más de 10 asistencias en 32 partidos seguidos.

Como conclusión podríamos decir que fue un buen partido ya que limitamos a los Jazz a tirar con un 40% en tiros y nuestro banquillo apareció. De momento no podemos pedir más.

Esta noche los Celtics intentaran seguir con la racha de 3 victorias ante los poderosos Nets en Brooklyn . Hoy es hora de demostrar que estamos cuesta arriba intentando ganar a uno de los equipos más hábiles de la liga. Los nets, cuentan con Deron Williams, uno de los mejores bases de la NBA, y van a jugar a anotar. Si los Celtics quieren ganar este partido, tendrán que jugar duro en defensa.

                                                                Rondo vs Williams

Dos de los 5 mejores bases se enfrentan en el partido de hoy. La verdad es que es para no perdérselo. Si Rondo está recuperado de la lesión de ayer, hoy sería un momento perfecto para hacer un triple doble ya que el partido se televisa en televisión nacional (y ya sabemos lo peligroso que es cuando sale en la tele). Esperamos que sea un gran duelo, ambos bases son rápidos y tienen buen manejo de balón, aunque Rondo sea mejor defensor y Williams tenga mejor tiro.

                                      Claves del partido

- Aunque los Nets probablemente no tengan a Marshon Brooks y Gerald Wallace, tienen a Deron, a Joe Johnson y Lopez, que son jugadores de calibre All-star y que pueden hacer mucho daño. Hoy tenemos que ser muy agresivos en defensa. Además, son un equipo que tira bien y que se siente cómodo desde la línea de triple.

- Necesitamos que nuestro banquillo aparezca como en el partido de ayer. También estaría bien que nuestros titulares aporten en ataque. Terry y KG son muy importantes en el equipo y los necesitamos también para ganar partidos. 

- Finalmente, rebotear va a ser importante como siempre. Ayer permitimos muchas segundas oportunidades que provocaron muchas canastas rivales. Tenemos que asegurarnos de que cerramos bien el rebote y intentar coger todos los rebotes que podamos tanto en ataque como en defensa.
